Have a Sizzlin' Summer with Eddie's Energy Bars®!

Dear [NAME],

We have finally made it past the eighty degree mark up in the Green Mountains, and that means it's summer.  Pull out those beach towels, grab the sunscreen, and find a great summer read.  You have got a couple of months to get those summer chores done, but before you start anything, head on over to Eddie's Energy Bars. We can give you the energy to get through the summer in a healthy and safe way.

The bars are flying off of the shelves at all of our stores.  I would like to welcome a new store to our ever growing list: Sweet Clover Market in Essex, VT.  Sweet Clover is home to Eddie's Energy Bars first ever 24-hour sell out!  Head on over there and give Heather and Ellen some business, and pick up some handmade hotdogs--DELICIOUS!

We've got a new treat in our newsletter for all of you eager Eddie's fans: Dinneen Diette, a respected  health and wellness coach with ties to  our region,  has agreed to write health-related articles for Eddie's Extras.  Her first article "Eating for Summer Energy" can be found below, along with other interesting information.

Please enjoy the 4th of July and be safe.

Eddie's Energy Bars Partners with the Green Mountain Adventure Racing Association
We recently jumped on board with the GMARA after seeing the amazing events they put on.  GMARA puts on two adventure racing events in the fall and spring.  Racers canoe, hike, bike, and traverse the mountains up at Bolton Valley, usually overnight, just for the thrill and adventure it brings.  EEB looks forward to creating a great partnership with GMARA over the years to come.

"Eating for Summer Energy" by Dinneen Diette

Summertime is here and what a great time of year to eat for energy!  Most people don’t realize how their eating habits greatly affect their energy and vitality.  We can nourish our bodies and minds simply by eating the right foods and adding a few changes to our lifestyles.

As a Health & Wellness Counselor, I constantly hear my clients tell me that they don’t have enough energy.  By incorporating my small, simple changes they sleep better, feel, better, and live happier lives.

Summer is the best (and easiest!) time of year to incorporate these changes.  Here are my Top Ten Tips for increasing your energy this summer:

1.      Reduce or eliminate caffeine. Though caffeine does give us that quick bolt of energy, the downside is that shortly after it causes our blood sugar to go down giving us those ‘crashes’.  Caffeine also dehydrates us, which leads me to my next tip…

10,000 Steps a Day Keeps the Hospital Away
Are you having a tough time fitting in some exercise at work these days?  I have got the answer for you! Try wearing a pedometer on your waist the entire day at work, and see how many steps you rack up.  It is recommended that you walk 10,000 steps a day.  When I work eight hours, I walk nine miles! Imagine what you can walk if you try this too.  Professor of cardiology at UVM, Dr. Phil Ades, says walking is the best kind of exercise you can do because of a couple of things.  Everyone walks, so it's easy, and walking is one of two forms of exercise where you can support your entire body weight.  So, get off that chair in your cubicle or workplace, and go do some walking.  In the long run, you will be glad you did!
